Sahar is built local-first. The app runs on your iPhone — nothing you do inside it is sent to a server we operate, because we do not operate one.
What's stored, and where
Your intentions, reflections, rak'ah count, streak, dua selections, alarm configuration, and app preferences are saved on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. If iCloud is enabled on your Apple ID, these records also sync through your private CloudKit database so they appear on the other devices you own. Apple administers that private database — we cannot read it, and no one other than you can access it without your Apple account credentials.
Location
Sahar uses your location only to calculate the local times of Maghrib, Isha, Islamic midnight, the last third of the night, and Fajr. If you grant "When In Use" location permission, your iPhone supplies coordinates directly to the app. Those coordinates are used for the astronomy calculation (performed entirely on-device using the open-source Adhan library) and stored on-device alongside your settings. They are not transmitted to us or to any third party.
You can use Sahar without granting location permission by setting a manual city in Settings. In that mode the app never reads your device location.
Notifications and alarms
Sahar uses Apple's AlarmKit framework to schedule the wake-up alarm you configure. AlarmKit runs entirely on your device — no Sahar server is involved in ringing your alarm.
What we do not do
- No third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
- No user accounts, sign-ups, or passwords.
- No newsletter / marketing emails unless you opt in via the waitlist form on this site.
- No sale, sharing, or licensing of your data to anyone.
- No attempt to identify you across apps or websites.
Waitlist emails
If you enter your email on the waitlist form on this site, we store that address for the sole purpose of emailing you once when Sahar launches on the App Store. You can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing the address at the bottom of this page.
Subscriptions and payments
When Sahar begins offering paid subscriptions, payments will be processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple provides us with anonymised transaction metadata — never your card details, never your address. Apple's privacy policy governs that relationship.
Children
Sahar is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app does not require an account and stores nothing about you beyond what's described above.
Your choices
Delete the app and its data is gone from your device. Turn off iCloud for Sahar in iOS Settings and the cloud copy stops syncing. Email us and we will delete any waitlist record we hold for you.
Changes
If this policy materially changes we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where practical, mention the change on the app or this site.
